Paper Girls Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan ~Goodreads~
Published by Image Comics 2016
Paperback 128 pages ~Book Depository~
Thank you to my wonderful boyfriend Sam for giving me this for Christmas, you know me so well!
The smash-hit series from BRIAN K. VAUGHAN and CLIFF CHIANG continues with a bold new direction, as intrepid young newspaper deliverers Erin, Mac, and Tiffany find themselves launched from 1988 to a distant and terrifying future…the year 2016.
So after downloading Paper Girls Vol, 1 last year via Netgalley for free, I never thought I would be so hooked on a graphic novel series of Brian Vaughan’s like I am with Saga but Paper Girls is SO GOOD!
Vol, 1 ended with the time travelling spaceship sending Mac, Tiff, and Erin into the future and running into Future Erin. KJ is missing, and the “Old Timers” are not in hot pursuit, so yes disorientating or what?
Despite this Vol being set in 2016 it still has this 80s vibe with the aliens, and other various monsters you can only imagine in your video games. With this comes the reminiscence of characters like future Erin, but the question that’s arisen amongst the girls is can they trust this future version of Erin or not? As well as this the girls ask about themselves of what they’re like at this present date, and not all of them are what they expected. Perhaps dreaming of the future is better than experiencing and finding out your life decisions.
There’s so many questions inside my head that I hope will be answered in the next volume.
Vaughan brings in much of the humour readers will recognise from reading Saga, its witty, gutsy, and just brilliant. The illustrations are fantastic and in keeping with the settings, and Vaughan’s writing is just top-notch as always. I can’t fault the man, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to.
