Okay so I’m not as thrilled about this volume as the others, as things were seemingly coming together in the last volume. Vol, 4 kind of feels like everything is falling apart again. We’re taken to perhaps a year or two into the future where Alana and Marko have set up home on the planet Gardenia where Marko is a stay at home Dad whilst Alana has a job as an actress in the ‘Open Circuit’ a kind of live-action soap-opera if you like. All is not particularly rosy though; Marko is having a rough time coping with Hazel and himself and Alana are drifting apart because of the stresses of work and keeping their family together. Like any family I guess they’re going through a rough patch, but it’s honestly breaking my heart.
Across the galaxy, Prince Robot IV is recuperating on the pleasure world of Sextillion while his wife is murdered and newborn son is stolen by a robot commoner who hopes to ignite a rebellion against the ruling bluebloods.
Meanwhile, Sophie and Gwendolyn accompanied by Lying Cat are in search of finding a way to help The Will heal from is vegetative state. Then adding to the mix of the ex-wife of an old friend, someone’s sister and the other interesting creatures that come into this story- it all keeps you on your toes.
I think a bit like Vol, 2 this volume is setting itself up for the next volume, and although I’m a bit upset about Marko and Alana this was a great read and Brian Vaughan certainly keeps my imagination alive. I’m intrigued to see what happens next for all of these interesting characters!
